I Could Be Knitting

Lion Brand Homespun Shawl

I have 4 skeins of blue Homespun by Lion Brand. It is 100% acrylic and has a nubby texture. It is soft and I love the color. But there is something about this yarn I just don’t like. It splits easily and because of the texture it is hard to see if you make a mistake.

I have tried 4 or 5 different lace patterns with it.  I just could not seem to make lace work with this stuff. I finally gave up on a lace pattern. I ended up using the same pattern as Grandmother’s Favorite Dishcloth.  I will only do the increases and them stop so the shawl will be a triangle.

It is such an easy pattern to remember. I think of it as a Zen Pattern.

Cast on 2 stitches. Row 1—K1, YO, knit to then end. Row 2 and all other rows—K1, YO, knit to the end. Do this until it is big enough or you get tired of it. Bind off and weave in the tails.

When I am done I will post a picture.

I don’t think I will ever buy this yarn again.

I’m so with you about that yarn. I’ve made two sweaters out of it for my daughter and I told her she needs to like a different kind of yarn.

I love Homspun Yarn. I have knitted 8 baby blankets with it and the mothers tell me the babies/toddlers take them everywhere. They need to wash them while babies are asleep. I use a size 11 knitting needle and use the pattern similar to above Cast on 5 stitches, Knit 3, YO, Knit 2, NR: Knit 3, YO, Knit 3, then Knit 3, YO, knit to end until there are 126 stitches then you change pattern to Knit 2, Knit 2 tog, YO, Knit 2 tog, knit to end. You will end up with a 36″ blanket that has been knitted diagonally.

LOOKING for deals on all colors for a shawl ministry.

Do you want to get rid of the 4 skeins of blue homespun? Please email me @ tamera56@verizon.net

My daughter is knitting a scarf with that yarn and it’s driving her nuts. She says that when she pulls the yarn as tight as she needs it, it kinks up. (I’m not a knitter; I hope I explained that well enough.) Does anyone know if there’s a trick to knitting with this?

She’s knitting the scarf for me and I picked out the yarn. It’s gorgeous. 345 Corinthian is the color. I feel guilty for saddling her with this.

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Suzanna

If she is making a scarf she could use a worsted weight or sport weight yarn and the homespun together. The normal yarn would counter act the hard to knit aspect. The scarf would knit up faster and be done with.
